Downing Ready To Leave Boro

It seems as if Middlesbrough's left-winger is finally heading out the door:

Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing could be set to leave the club. Press Association reports claim that the 24-year-old will submit a written transfer request on Monday.

Most reports have him heading to Tottenham Hotspur, where he would fill a huge need in their midfield.

Of course, if Spurs chairman Daniel Levy had bought Martin Petrov when Martin Jol had asked for him, instead of deeming him too old, the left wing position wouldn't have been a festering sore for Spurs over the past couple of seasons.

Frankly, until Levy stops making stupid and ignorant decisions -- such as, say, selling his best player minutes before the transfer window shuts and not leaving him long enough to buy an adequate replacement -- Spurs will keep struggling.
